Getting help from the police
If your (ex) partner is retained in custody
If your partner is charged with a more serious offence he may be retained (kept) in police custody and taken to court within 24 hours. The court can either remand him in custody or release him on bail.
They will sometimes attach conditions to his bail which may forbid him to come near you. If he breaks these conditions you should inform the police who can arrest him for breaching the bail conditions.
